With the Rehoboth Children’s Home operating at full capacity, an expanded vision for the Home began
to form in our minds and hearts. A “for sale” sign on 5 acres of ground located directly across the road
from Rehoboth began drawing our attention in a serious way. The impetus for considering the purchase of this land came
with a $50,000 gift in memory of Bonnie Burgard who passed away on June 17, 2006. Bonnie and her husband, Mike, were
our partners in founding the Summer of Hope program in Bozeman, Montana. This gift was matched with a second contribution
of $50,000. These gifts combined with several other substantial contributions gave us what we needed to acquire the
land and the final payment was made in March 2007. The large size of this piece of ground opens the door to a continued
vision of growth in the future. Our first priority is to build Bonnie’s Heart Baby Home
so that we can serve more children. Most of the children who are cared for at Rehoboth are orphans of poverty.
Their birth families are economically unable to care for them. The Rehoboth Children’s Home has a successful program
in moving children on to loving families when there is no alternative but adoption. However, it is imperative that we
also look at what causes families in the Philippines
to break down and what support can be offered to keep them intact. Ideally, we would like to see a time in the future
when orphanages become extinct. Thus, the expanded vision includes community outreach in the form of a medical clinic,
vocational training center, an education foundation and other services to support families and help them rise above their
circumstances. We would also like to develop some agricultural and commercial ventures to help the Home develop a degree
of self-sufficiency. It is a big dream with a big price tag of $1 million to build all three phases of the project.
But we know that we have a big God in whom all things are possible.
